Best Santorini Restaurants For Superb Food, And Value For Money.
Its all about food! My choice of Santorini Restaurants and tavernas, including reviews. Where to find the best, eateries from snack food, fast food even best sandwiches.
There are hundreds of eateries dotted around the Island. From the expensive, Oia and Fira, caldera view restaurants, to the small village taverna.
With such a huge array of tastes and choices, how do you choose which ones to visit?
The Perfect Meal
You would spend months, even years, visiting them all, trying to find that perfect haven for a perfect meal. Alas, the time spent on your vacation, usually doesn’t stretch more than three weeks.
Jazzy Food
You can choose to eat real Greek Food, or the fancier, and usually more expensive restaurants, jazzy, saucy, arty type of dishes. The type of place where, you leave more hungry than when you arrived, where the food, (what little of it there is) is arranged so nicely it’s a shame to eat it.

Greek Taverna
The more traditionall Greek taverna, serves good wholesome food, like mother used to make. They dont rely on sauces to jazz up the food.
However, they are not all equal, some can be bland in taste, and dry. It all depends on the quality of ingredients used, and the method of cooking.
There are many exellent, top of the range Santorini restaurants, and traditionall tavernas, serving up delicious food, the trick is... where to find them.
Recommended Restaurants.
Can you have everything? Is there such a place where you can sit and have great food, excellent service, and a price tag, that won’t stop you in your tracks?
Well…I haven’t tried them all. However, the places I have, I would certainly recommend them as, “must try” Santorini restaurants and tavernas.
My recommendations are based on four things.
They must have:
Excellent food.
Excellent service
Warm friendly atmosphere
And value for money.
Here are a few “must”, places to visit while you are here:
Irinis Place. Traditional food served with a warm smile, and maybe a song.
The "Liver Bird" They serve the best English breakfast on the Island
Captain Dimitris Taverna. Food served with a "tear". Strange but sadly true
Tis Pandoras A Fish Restaurant In Ammoudi Where The Fish Could Literal Leap Onto Your Plate.
I am reviewing the Santorini restaurants all the time, so please return to this page for further recommendations.
Gyros and Slouvaki bars.
A cheap way to eat is to grab gyros or slouvaki. You will find these small slouvaki bars in all the major towns, and resorts. They are the Greek fast food joints and are very popular with the locals.
What is slouvaki…?
Chunks of meat on a stick. You can have chunks of pork, lamb, chicken or beef skewered onto a stick and served with fries. Cost 3.50 Euros.
Gyros are strips of pork, lamb, or chicken, fries and salad with mayonnaise, all wrapped up inside pita bread. Eat in or take away, cost 2.50 Euros.
Bakeries.
Another good source for cheap eats is bakeries. They can be found in all the towns and villages, try a loaf of their warm, crusty fresh baked bread, with some cheese, mmmm.
You will find all sorts of pies and pastries on offer in the bakeries, but I have found a lot of them are more pastry than filling. One which always wins though is the cheese and spinach pie, they are very nice, and very filling. Delicious!
Also check out the sandwiches, for 3.20 Euros, you can have one heck of a feast. Home baked baguette, filled with chicken salad, tuna salad, cheese salad or omelet are the popular choices.
My rule is; if you can’t see the filling squeezing out of the bread, it isn’t a real sandwich.
